By: Kelly Watt (Reporter, Assistant Editor, Notes, and Interviewer), Chloe Start (Esports Editor, and reporter), and Gabriel Wenner (reporter and Interviewer)

Here is an interview with Ms. Kurz by Kelly (Kels) Watt on the 7th of September 2022. Ms. Kurz is one of the seventh-grade math teachers at Ohdela. Kels is one of her students, as well as a member of the Dela Discovery Newspaper. All the questions in this interview were by Kelly Watt, and the answers were by Ms. Kurz. The meaning of us in this interview refers to the Newspaper members. The following is the interview of Mrs. Kurz by Kels Watt:
Mrs. Kurz Interview:
Kels: Where did you originally go to school for a degree?
Mrs. Kurz: I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree from Western Governors University in 2011. I obtained my masters also from Western Governors University in 2016.
Kels: Favorite memory?
Mrs. Kurz: That is a hard one. There are many memorable moments in life, like the births of my children, births of my grandchildren, my wedding in 2020, etc.
Mrs. Kurz: There are also the memories of students. Those students who take the time to let me know how much of an impact I have made for them. Also, the audio drama club performance last spring. That was epic.
Kels: Favorite thing to do when you're not in school?
Mrs. Kurz: I am a creative person. I love to sing and I love to craft. I create custom graphics and then I turn those graphics into projects. I also sing karaoke at least once a month.
Kels: Best way to relax on the weekends?
Mrs. Kurz: I relax on the weekends by singing karaoke or working on a crafting project. Those two things are really fun to me.
Kels: Favorite vacation location?
Mrs. Kurz: I’ve been to Florida twice for vacation. Both times have been amazing. CoCo Beach was the best.
Kels: Why did you start the Audio Drama Club?
Mrs. Kurz: I really enjoyed watching my own children involved in choir and the drama department when they were in school. Being as this is an online school, I wanted to help get students involved with each other and bring some of those elements of brick and mortar schools to our setting. An online school can become isolating and I wanted to help eliminate that isolation and have fun as well.
Kels: Would you recommend people to join your club?
Mrs. Kurz: I think anyone who enjoys theater or even audio books would enjoy the club. It is a way for students to become the book or the play without having to be seen on a stage. I think it is an awesome combination.
Kels: What do you think your best personality trait is?
Mrs. Kurz: I love to laugh. Because I love to laugh, I don’t mind putting myself out there and being a little silly at times.
Kels: Who would you like to be a mentor for?
Mrs. Kurz: That’s an interesting question. I would say anyone wanting to be a math teacher or even interested in the teaching field in both MS or HS. Give a real perspective on a career choice.
Kels: What is the Audio Drama Club?
Mrs. Kurz: It’s taking a 6th-12th grade play and pretty much turning it into a radio show or a podcast.
Kels: How long have you been teaching?
Mrs. Kurz: 12 years but 5 years homeschooling my kids so 17 in total.
Kels: What year did you start teaching?
Mrs. Kurz: 2011 with a license. I was homeschooling before that.
Kels: Why did you choose OHDELA?
Mrs. Kurz: I love teaching online and being able to bring math to life.
Kels: What is your favorite thing about teaching 7th grade?
Mrs. Kurz: I love that I get to help you guys get ready for your future.
Kels: Who is your mentor?
Mrs. Kurz: Mr. Martin and Ron Clark. Mr. Martin is another teacher here at OHDELA.
That was the interview that occurred on the 7th of September, 2022, with Mrs. Kurz. Mrs. Kurz has told us many times when she messes up writing. "I became a math teacher because I cannot write.” Thank you, Mrs. Kurz, for letting us interview you and answering us honestly. We also appreciate the information and would like to do this again sometime. That was the interview with Ms. Kurz by Kelly (Kels) Watt.
