Let it Snow Ice Cream

by Kelly Watt, Student Reporter

As I like to do when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Well, when life gives you snow, make some ice cream.

If you have never made snow ice cream, no worries. It is easy as five measly ingredients. It also takes about 5 - 6 minutes to do. You can save this recipe. Now let us get started!

Getting started

I am sure your parents or family members would say “don't eat ice cream for breakfast. Well, you are in luck. This is not too sweet nor not sweet at all. It is tasteful!

You will need these things: Sugar, milk, salt, vanilla extract, and 8 cups (more or less depending on how much you will want)

First, you want to gather all your non-snow ingredients. You want to add 1 cup milk or 1½ cup depending on how much you are making ( it can be whatever milk you want). Next, add ⅓ cup of sugar or however much your sweet tooth desires. After adding the sugar you want to add 1 pinch of salt in to help keep your ice cream cold. You should not taste the salt, it is only a pinch or two. Lastly, you will want to add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Combine the ingredients followed by putting them in the freezer.

After getting the snow. Put the snow in your mix. Stir until it is a fluffy scoopable but not runny mix. It should look like a regular scoop of ice cream. If it starts to melt, stick it in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes. It will melt quickly so get ready to jump into the deliciousness of ice cream.

You can eat it as it is or you can add some sprinkles for some cute decor and taste. :) Personally, I always add sprinkles. Enjoy!

*Eat snow at your own risk if you are worried about pollution, then you can just use shaved ice instead.

Serves about 2~4 people Serving 1 Ingredient: 1 cup milk or, ⅓ cup sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 pinch salt, 8 cups or more of fresh snow or shaved ice 8 cups shaved ice if you are making it in summer.

To make shaved ice use a knife with adult supervision to cut ice edges slowly into a bowl and follow the directions above to make some ice cream!!
