Women In Music
By Lauren Johnsen, Student Reporter
I have always been interested in music. All the beats, sounds, vocals, lyrics, everything about it, and how it all comes together to make something amazing. I have always been inspired by female artists in music Nicki Minaj, Adele, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and others. The one that inspired me the most is probably Mariah Carey. Mariah Carey is one of the most influential singers to me.
Mariah Carey has one of the best vocal ranges ever. She has worked with some of the biggest artists ever such as Snoop Dogg, Nas, Whitney Houston, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, and others. Mariah has broken multiple records in 2019 she broke the record for the most-streamed song in a day on Spotify for her song “All I want for Christmas is you”. Most No. 1 singles by a solo artist in 2020 (she holds 19). She also holds 2 diamond albums, 7 multiplatinum albums, 4 platinum albums, and 2 gold albums.
Mariah Carey is one of the most iconic people in the industry today. She broke multiple records. She's a big influence on people like me who are very interested in music. To get as good as Mariah Carey or other big singers reacquires years of exercising your vocal cords. Your vocal cords are muscles for them to get more range you got to practice reaching your limits every day in order to unleash the major vocals. Mariah Carey trained for years to reach the levels in the music industry she has reached.
I hope in the future to reach the accomplishments that Mariah Carey has reached. I'm already practicing hopefully I can get a vocal coach and singing lessons to push me to my limits. I know starting early is definitely helpful but I'm just starting to practice daily. I know I can do it if I put enough work and effort into my music it will payout in the end. Music is a very big part of my life. Music impacts you more than you think it does. It can make you feel like your sad, happy, excited, angry, etc.
Depending on the kind of music you listen to you might develop different tastes than other people. I like all kinds of music pop, rock, hip-hop, reggae, country, soul, jazz, indie, classical, etc. Some people might only like bossa nova or techno music and that's ok. There's music for everyone so no matter who you are and what you like there will always be a wide variety of music genres for you to choose from. What kind of music do you like?
