Meet Our Managing Editor

By Wyat Anslow, Student Reporter

Ellen Wall became an editor for the Dela Discovery during 2021- 22 at the tender age of 12. Since taking charge, she has overseen the club’s evolution from a monthly PDF-based newsletter to a full-fledged and frequently updated website. Wall recently expressed her thoughts on what she thought about being a journalist.

Wall said she found ‘it to be “very fun and [...] rewarding.’ She also said it gives her ‘the opportunity to expand my reach and prepare for college and life.’

What made you want to be a journalist?

Wall became a journalist partly because she thought it would be cool, but also thinking that it would ‘help me with life skills and [prepare me] for my future job.’ She does enjoy being a journalist because it allows her to connect with the people she has the pleasure to interview.

What kind of hardships do you face as a journalist?

Wall mentions the deadline as being one of the more difficult bits of being a Journalist, because ‘It is hard to make time for it [...]’ due to her classes. She does find a way, as ‘[...] I know it will be good for me in the long term.’

Is it particularly difficult to gather information?

Wall does not think so because she knows people she can interview, and with various ways to communicate with people online, it is far from difficult.

What kind of advice do you have for those wishing to become journalists?

Wall advises those wishing to become journalists to ‘[...] always follow the ethics code and make sure to have fun with it.’ She also advises that students should ‘never do something that you will end up regretting.’
