Welcome To Dela Discovery
OHDELA's Student-run School News Outlet
Welcome to the new Dela Discovery
by Dan R. Arman, faculty advisor
Greetings, and welcome to the 2021-22 Dela Discovery, Ohdela’s only student-run news outlet. For those unfamiliar with the club or its publication, let me fill you in on a little recent history. Two years ago, an Ohdela student decided that the school should have its own student newspaper and sought out the principal to make it a reality. Given that my prior experience to teaching was as a newspaper reporter, I was drafted to advise her and help shepherd the project to fruition. Two years later, we now have a Journalism class and an active group of students that are eager to provide news to our Ohdela community and practice and grow in their news gathering skills.
In the past, Dela Discovery was published as an online “newspaper,” with issues being distributed as PDFs through email and social media to families several times a year. This year, we decided to get a little upgrade and create a website where content can be added and updated as soon as the articles are completed. In addition, since we live in a multimedia world, this web site allows us to be able to add videos, podcasts and other media to enhance the experience for you, our readers, and help the students acquire media skills that even I was not exposed to 30 years ago as a journalism student at Kent State University.
Moreover, Dela Discovery continue to pursue the goal that its founder laid out, that it be a forum for students to learn and help us to come together as a school and learning community.
I would like to thank you in advance for supporting this endeavor and hope you enjoy and are informed by its content.
